  1. Governments are really desperate for a vaccine, not to save lives, but to save their skins. The simple fact is that all the panicked headless chicken lockdowns, and other measures, are simply not sustainable. Without a vaccine governments will eventually be forced to lift all measures. When this happens people will notice that the sky isn't falling on them and start asking why the measures were every introduced in the first place, and why they weren't lifted far sooner. The only government that won't have difficult questions to answer is Sweden's.

  2. As someone who teaches let me tell everyone the TRUTH about online learning. It really, really sucks! On several occasions I have been asked to do it, but I have always refused and told people that they should have an in person teacher. With an M.Sc. in computer science and 20 years software development behind me, including web development, I'm certainly well positioned to steal people's money from them by offering online teaching, BUT I'M HONEST. Sorry but, despite being close to 63, I still say we need to get off students' backs and stop stealing their lives from them. The covid risk to students is laughably small, so I want them to have the same opportunities that I had at their age: nice packed lecture halls, full-on lab sessions, a frenetic freshers' week, lots of societies to join, and busy student bars to unwind in. I'm sick of cowardly, incredibly selfish, old bastards denying young people the same things that they enjoyed. I'd rather see a few old people who have had their lives die, then ruin the lives of millions of young people. Whenever there's a crisis, or a war, it always seems to be the young that bear the brunt of it. It's now time, and only fair, that those who have enjoyed a good long life made the sacrifice instead. Rant over.

  3. When Dr. John was young he had it hard, but most of those who want to wreck young lives had it really easy. Like me, most of them had no tuition fees and a grant: I even had my travel paid. These are also the same people who, through their greed and selfishness, have made it impossible for young people to get on the housing ladder, so they have to pay extortionate rents.
