  1. It's just an empty threat by a pathetic man who is feeling increasingly desperate. Victory in Ukraine is now absolutely existential to Putin, so he will say absolutely anything to try and save his own hide. However, I very much doubt that most Russians are prepared to face nuclear obviation for the sake of Ukraine. And I doubt most of those listening to Putin are genuinely prepared to see their families and loved ones wiped out just to save him. Once the West lets itself be intimidated by such threats they will be used repeatedly, and not just by Russia.
