  1. A "learning assistant" is not a proper qualified teacher, and is paid considerably less. Also, further education colleges are infamous for poor pay and exploiting their staff. As for schools struggling to fill vacancies, did you know that in most schools applications from older, more experienced, teachers go straight in the bin, because they cost more to employ. That's assuming they are prepared to spend the better part of a day filling in a school's torturous application form. They won't accept CVs and every school has it's own different form that looks like it's been designed by a dyslexic monkey.
