  1. People can only increase their prices when there are others willing to swallow the increase. Increasing interest rates restricts how much money people have to spend, if they have debt to service, which is most people. So yes it does help control inflation. AND it also protects savings from the spendthrifts whose behaviour fuels inflation and devalues them.
