  1. I suspect Putin's goal now is to destroy Ukraine as much as he can, without any regard to international law, or even any danger this poses to Russians. He knows there are regions that want out of the Russian Federation, and countries that want to significantly reduce how much Moscow pulls their strings. So destroying Ukraine is intended to scare them off making any bid for freedom.
