  1. Sometimes you have to recognise that there is no diplomatic way to deal with a psychopath. It's like trying to stop a rabid dog from biting you by talking quietly to it. As Chamberlain's 1938 Munich negotiations proved, attempts at diplomacy sometimes just make things much worse.

  2. A lot of people in the West are like those on a train when a gang assaults and robs a fellow passenger. Instead of realising that there are more than enough of them to destroy the gang they pull up their newspapers and pretend they don't see what's happening. Of course, later on the gang comes back and meets out the same treatment to some of those who hid behind their newspapers!
