Yet another example of the total futility of lockdowns. Why were most countries "leaders" incapable of learning the blatantly obvious fact that lockdowns simply kicked the covid can down the road a bit. Well, maybe the vaccines will rescue them from their stupidity.
Of course, what they should have done was follow the advice in the Great Barrington Declaration, but they had neither the courage nor intelligence to do so. This advice, by an international group of very eminent scientists, was to focus sharply on isolating the most vulnerable, while letting everyone else get on with life. If this had been followed there WOULD have been less deaths, their countries WOULD now be enjoying herd immunity (without any vaccination program), AND their economies would be in far better shape.
Disasters happen, or are made a lot worse, when you elect cowards and fools to run the country. Italy is by no means alone in this: the UK followed the same insane policies.
