Comments by "David Getling" (@DavidGetling) on "Vaccines offer even more protection 3 weeks after first dose" video.
This is why I'm so incredibly skeptical about claims that the Astra/Zeneca vaccine has very little efficacy against the SA variant. 3 weeks is about as long as most people have had since their first jab, and virtually none have had their second. So there simply has not been time to see if the vaccine gives protection. Sure, one can look at the amino acids in the spike, but we can still only speculate. There is no hard evidence for less protection against any variant.

@allangmiller Well, the double blind trial sounds as if it didn't give any statistically significant result. And it's well known that what happens in vitro often doesn't reflect what happens in vivo. So we do indeed have little more than speculation.

@allangmiller I teach hypothesis testing! If the null hypothesis is not rejected then one must accept that the results in the trial are due to chance, just like tossing 3 heads in a row doesn't indicated a biased coin. One can conduct further trials, but until then one has nothing. Your "simple protein-protein interaction" is precisely that. In vivo things can be a bit more complicated. It's why scientists are often left scratching their heads about why cross immunity occurs where they wouldn't expect it. With your accusation that I'm trying to find evidence it's clear that you aren't too bright. It's very clear that my contention is that the trial and experiments do not provide strong evidence. And because of the immense damage caused by things like lockdowns we shouldn't scaremonger. And the "never knows" on the long term effects on THESE vaccines is correct, because they simply haven't been around long enough. Thalidomide took a long time to show its side effects. The protocols for these current vaccines would have passed it as safe! While the Astra/Zeneca vaccine is well tried technology, we simply do not know if there are any long term unforeseen effects for the RNA type vaccines. That's what "unforeseen" means: something goes wrong in a way we never imagined.
