As Mark Twain remarked, it's much easier to fool people than convince them they have been fooled. The majority really don't want to be told that they agreed to have their lives turned upside down for two years, and the economy wrecked, for nothing. And most parents definitely don't want to hear that they let their children have their education and mental health buggered to hell for no good reason. Or that they let them have a vaccine that they absolutely didn't need and that might cause them autoimmune diseases in years to come.
