@AllHaiLKINGTIsHeRe3 Facts. Thankfully this behaviour is starting to get more exposure via the internet. It's difficult to see how the "sugar and spice and all things nice" trope can survive for much longer now we have better information about common behavioural patterns in the sexes.

@gozer33 She felt she needed to be "nice" because the question of possible promiscuity was relevant to what had potentially happened to her. Ie if she was in the habit of sneaking about with other men, this might have hinted at a potential explanation of her whereabouts. To wit: Q. Do you think she's been abducted? A. I think thats highly unlikely! Q. Do you think she's buggered off somewhere with a bloke? A. I think that's eminently possible! (Whoops! I shouldn't say that should I?! I mean, yes, she's very promiscuous...but I don't want to straight out SAY she's promiscuous. I mean we are friends and all!) Don't be dense. It doesn't suit you.

@gozer33 I don't think it was said like that. It was more a 'nice' way of saying she believed her to be fairly promiscuous without actually saying that. So they were actually being kind to her rather than judgmental/scathing. She was receiving a kindness even then rather than being looked down on. Women get exceptionally preferential treatment by and large, not discriminatory treatment.
