  1. Sam Harris was a young and impressionable acolyte of Christopher Hitchens. For all of the mellifluous appeal Hitchens had (and the internet has still to cease fawning over him years later) you only really have to watch a few of his videos to realise a great deal of his argument strategy was ad hominem of opponent. Ancillary to that he would (with great success) seduce his audience with flattery. It typically manifested in a down-the-nose "we're morally better than (opponent)" invitation to the audience, who would lap this up feverishly. The guy was permanently bristling with hubris. Harris is not substantively different, he merely lacks Hitchens' superficial charm and vocabulary.
