"Cooperation decays without punishment" experiment at 12mins. I think the results would be less striking if the group was solely Social Liberals, and more striking if the group was solely Social Conservatives. IMO the experiment is all about Altruism.

After the talk, i didn't actually come out with any justification for Social Conservatism at all! All he gave on the topic was an ultimately meaningless picture about Christian Hell. What are ordinary rational secular people supposed to get from that? Can anyone find anywhere in the talk where he gives any rational justification for Social Conservatism? Please help.

i didn't understand much of that Denny, cept for the start. The Republican party is still quite SOCIALLY Conservative - but i agree, it is now very FISCALLY Liberal thanks to the NeoCons hijacking it. I really don't think the Republican party minds however, they like the power the NeoCons brought to the table.

what about Authoritarian vs Libertarian?

Libertarians are Socially Liberal. This TED talk did mention how Authoritarianism tends to go together with Right-wing politics. Libertarianism is the opposite of Authoritarianism, and (since it's less often Right-wing) it tends to be Left-wing. But still - "Left" and "Right" seem more to do with economics thesedays. This TED talk is about the Social scale, which is Authoritarian vs Libertarian.
