This made me think a lot about active structures, like buildings that require a constant stream of energy to maintain their shape, if they lose power they literally fall over. Or like what might be required to build space elevators. Or even the "structural integrity field" that helps spacecraft stay together in startrek. In this video you can see that each individal pulse of the subwoofer breaks and then reflows the strucuture of the blob, like a self-healing material. I do wonder if you could build larger structures outof dilatent fluids like this - coupled with some kindof vibrators (ie: electronic quartz timers). The advantage would be the material could self-heal, and by adjusting the vibration you can put it into a mode that allows it to be re-formed into other shapes - then adjust the vibration back and it will be re-locked into it's new shape.

So the meaning of life (42) is 1/10th of Marijuana (420). Marijuana has 9 letters, not 10, so perhaps there is 1/10th missing. The meaning of life... is whatever is missing when you're smoking it up. But what's missing? Is it referring to the hunger for Doritos you get? Are Doritos the meaning of life?

Nah mate, they're different things. A cursory search online found websites explaining the differences quite well.

>ad at the end of the video is that the only ad you noticed? interesting. (just as planned)

It's an awkwardly balanced object. It feels heavier when not spinning because it takes extra effort to balance it while you're lifting. When it's spun up, you no longer need to exert effort to keep it balanced in your hands. So it becomes just as light as if you were doing weight training on a cable machine. You are feeling it's true weight, which is less than you'd expect. It's really a reminder of how much extra effort we expend trying to balance things. There's probably a zen koan in here somewhere.

MegaMasturbator It's the pingpong ball's string, it's stopping the (rather large) force pushing downwards on the beaker. Buoyancy is pushing the pingpong ball up yeah? But what is that force of buoyancy pushing down against to get that upwards force? If you imagine that the ball is the unmoving center of the universe, then the ball is pushing the beaker down instead. The string is stopping this force though.

B Both beakers will now have the same buoyancy (& 3rd law of motion) forces applied to them; but while the blue ball is adding no weight to it's beaker because of the string - the pingpong ball IS adding it's weight to the beaker now. Therefore the Pingpong beaker will be heavier by the weight of the ping-pong ball, it's not much weight difference but it should be enough to tip the scales down on the ping-pong ball side. (ps: i got the first question wrong. Didn't consider the 3rd law)

If gene-therapy could change this one gene, it'd be a interesting to change this in adults just to see how long it takes (if ever) before it has an effect.

The puns, i blame Brady, it's somehow his fault

>I can't fathom why they would leave it like that. yeah the gods are pretty crazy.

Do you actually enjoy watching Catalyst?

Sadly, due to the dismal state of internet infrastructure in Australia, a lot of Australians don't really have the bandwidth to load both of these in 1080p at once. Had to pause both videos occasionally for buffering.

ok i subbed to SmarterEveryDay, but after watching some videos i unsubbed. He has a Bible verse at the end of every video, it creeped me right out. Sorry, i grew up in a cult, i've got an unpleasant history with this stuff.

7:00 if i had to name those mountains, i'd name them the Photoshop-Stamp-Tool mountain range. They look eerily fake. I guess Slartibartfast got lazy when designing those.

Can you please include a text disclaimer "Paid Product Placement" in every relevant scene? (ie: when you show Microsoft Skype, and when you show and mention Microsoft One-Note). Product placement is an inherently dishonest practice, but you can soften that if you add those disclaimers into the scenes themselves. Thankyou.

Yeah, if the test will falsely identify 1% of people who don't have the disease: That's 1% of a GIGANTIC number. This problem seems like more of a word puzzle than a math puzzle, i had to listen to the question over and over before i realised what the 1% was really referring to.

This isn't a very good way to approach life, because we very rarely know the TRUE odds. You'll end up taking more risk than it's worth, which is why it's easy to grift people. Or to say it in economic terms: Information is never perfect, so there's really no such thing as the "pure market forces" which underpins laissez-faire capitalist thought. The whole system is corrupted by simply controlling the information, or you know - lying.

Being a more social type of person would mean you use more phone more than average. Some aspects of living a more social life might cause brain tumors: ie: travelling more, being exposed to more varied environments, more social stresses (stress hormones).

Just had a realisation: If you want to design sexy figure-hugging space-suits, start by first trying to design sexy polar clothing. Space is even colder than that, so it's a good start if your dream is to make some technologically sophisticated clothing. Lets help those Eskimos bring sexy back.

Reading the comments here, what you say in the video is quite clearly correct: I thought we already all knew the facts, but looking at the comments here it seems most laymen have it wrong. In a democracy, this level of public ignorance about such an important subject is outright frightening. :( also, i'm not sure i want to read the comments section on this channel ever again. ps: Australian here. Over the past decade our government has been increasingly politicizing EVERY issue and playing the day-to-day opinion polls, very little is to do with any actual good for the country, these ppl have zero ethics and are only in it for their own short-term power games. I don't think our dropping of the climate tax was done for any reason other than political maneuvering for short-term political gains and keeping powerful campaign contributors happy (ie: the mining giants).

So great, so intuitive, so interesting! IIRC I never learned this in highschool physics class.

From what i gather from the video: None. We watched the same video right? Seemed like literally the central thing the video was trying to convey to the audience: These tyres won't wear out from repeated deformation.

24:28 i have had a beard for years, and know nothing about Razors. Infact i grew a beard partially because i was sick of needing to shave. I use simple hair clippers to trim my "neck-beard" away as required, it's not a close shave coz i don't want/need one. Other than that, I use tweezers to pluck any errant hairs away.
