Hey guys do you remember that documentary "The Matrix"?

You dismissed the sunshade idea pretty quickly. You wouldn't put a lens up there in space; You'd use mylar MIRRORS to reflect sunlight away. If you give the mirrors small reaction-wheels so they can control their rotation, then they can act like solar sails to adjust & maintain their positions. It'll also give you the ability to make a giant distributed space-based death-ray, if you focus all the mirrors on a single location. Or you can use that same death-ray to boost light-sail spacecraft around the solar system, and even to other star systems (similar in concept to the "Breakthrough Starshot" project, but that uses ground-based lasers instead). The same tech could also selectively light-up anywhere on the night side of the planet, so you can have 24hour daylight if you ever wanted to boost some crops, or give a melty helping hand to a snowed-in city. The mylar film mirrors are incredibly light-weight, it's all very easy to launch and folds out to a huge mirror size. We've already had practice with solar sails in space, and this isn't really that different.
