You didn't fall out--you took a break! It happens to the best of us! And as you know, once a Jew, always a Jew! You can come back anytime, and however you want to. Everyone picks and chooses, as you know. You don't have to become carbon copies of your parents, but now that you have seen that the grass is not necessarily greener out there, which may make you appreciate the world you grew up in, or atleast the way you were raised, you may decide that as an adult, you can carve out your own space for yourself in the Orthodox world. Be it Modern Orthodox, Chabad, Satmar, whatever! And once you have kids, as they start to grow up, you really begin to understand and appreciate the value of a religious home and what it gives you and your relationships and as a family. It is ok to come back and take a look around with a new perspective. You're never going to be a tourist--and you are always welcome back home! Wherever you find your new home to be! Hatzlacha!!

While there are certainly many values that others share with Orthodox Judaism, one can't replace being an Orthodox Jew simply by following some of the values that Jews hold. Orthodox Judaism is much more than a set of values. It is a way of life. A community. A commitment to G-d and his beliefs. And so much more.....

@zlorrrrrf Please don't speak for other people. You may find something funny, which is fine (please elaborate!), but don't assume everyone else feels the same way.

@stevecontato8959 There are many Turkish Jews all over the world (I am one of them, as well as my sister in law!). I hope he has the opportunity to meet some! And while he cannot convert you himself (it is a lengthy process that must be overseen by a Rabbi and an organization that handles conversions), please also understand that Judaism does not advocate proselytizing nor do we actively convert people from other religions. We also do not believe that one can convert FROM Judaism to another religion. Once a Jew, always a Jew!

Also bear in mind that the internet and cell phones are very recent. Even television and radio are not that old. Not when you compare it to a religion that is thousands of years old. While "disconnecting" may be the biggest thing people think of today, it is just a mere, small aspect of what we do when observing shabbat. It is not the most important part, or the most meaningful part of observing shabbat.

@stevecontato8959 If you ever did want to become a Jew, it is certainly possible! And it sounds like you already have someone to introduce you to the right people, should you ever want to explore the option!

@RandomAtze Have you seen American Gods? It is sort of about what you just posted. The new Gods and how people came to worship them. But that is a tv show. With a better, deeper understanding of Judaism, you would understand how it is different than the Amish, or simply enlightened people. It IS about religion and G-d. Abstaining from technology on shabbat is just one small part of Judaism. It is not at all the crux of the matter with regards to observance. But it is the first thing outsiders notice. Likely bc they think it would be difficult. It isn't.

@savtamarlene I do not know what comment you are referring to or answering, but the concept of a Fatwa is not a Jewish one. And why would we call a convert an apostate?? Judaism, while not a religion that encourages proselytizing, has no issue with converts. There are a few random things that a convert cannot do or partake in, but aside from those few things, once they have become a member of the tribe, they are a Jew for life!

@FantaLilt I have to agree with Ms. Josephs. You are incorrect. Whereas there are certain groups that may be less accepting of guerim than others, Judaism has no issue with converts. We take it very seriously in fact. The RCA holds your conversion certificate for 5 years to be sure that one has converted for the right reasons and still keeps kosher and shabbat, etc. Chabad has a medrash (they love their midrashim!) that teaches that there were so many people at Har Sinai that the people way in the back couldn't hear or see what was going on, so it took a while for them to figure it out, and that is why we have converts. Of course there are still Lubovitchers who are less accepting of converts in the sense that they don't want one to marry into the family (even beyond bc they are Kohanim). But that is a personal decision. And we don't believe that Jews can convert out. Even their children are members of the tribe. They would not need to go through a conversion process to come back to the fold (actually they would need to make a trip to the mikveh, but they would tovel without a bracha). So if halacha and the Rabbeim don't have a problem with guerim, why should we?

@1BestCookie One can follow as many rules of the Jewish religion as they want, however it does not make you Jewish and you would not be counted as a Jew for things like praying with a minyan. Or when you marry, have a baby, or die. The conversion process does not validate anyone's connection with Hashem or deepen your relationship with G-d. It is, however, a necessary process. Why go through the motions without making the commitment? That in itself shows that one is not truly committed or is still unsure. That is one of the reasons the RCA withholds the conversion certificate until they can verify that the convert is leading a torahdik lifestyle.

@stevecontato8959 My pleasure! My only suggestion would be to explore the other parts of Orthodox Judaism. From Modern Orthodox thru Chabad. Satmar is pretty hardcore! Although this generation seems much more open and friendly, which is nice to see.

@stevecontato8959 What looks the same from the outside? And you have heard the expression you can't judge a book by its cover, right....? Or the reason why schools have uniforms for kids? So they are all dressed the same and no one is allowed to be deemed "better" than anyone else (or to keep parents sane!). When everything looks the same on the outside, you must take the time and energy to go deeper and learn about the individual. Everyone is different and their dress should not be what you think the person is all about. It is just for decoration. And often a façade.

@stevecontato8959 I am nut sure if I am missing the point bc YouTube keeps cutting off the rest of your posts, or I am misunderstanding what you are trying to say. I understand how difficult it gets, especially on YouTube, when trying to get a complex thought across in a few short paragraphs. And if English is not one's mother tongue it gets even harder! I speak a few languages, but posting to strangers while trying to have deep conversations can get tricky! Did you mean the younger generation in general, or the younger Hasidim? (What is your first language if I may ask?)

I have very much enjoyed these videos. They offer a nice balance to Unorthodox, which has taken over a lot of people's minds as to what Hasidic Judaism is, unfortunately. (But am I the only one bothered that this last video was filmed on shabbos??)
