Scientology is NOT considered a religion in Germany. There are many countries that merely tolerate is as an organization but will not give it religious status. And others that consider it a cult. It should be stripped of its 501(c)3 status!

@fortitude9932 I would actually like to see where you found that. I would be very surprised if it were true. Also, while there are Scientology offices in Germany, they have no status as an organized religion. Nor would Germany have to give the. a reason why they deny them religious status. The biggest mistake the US ever made was giving them 501(c)3 status as a religious organization.

@hisredrighthand5212 Sorry, I am not a follower of Christianity or Islam, nor did I compare Islam to Scientology. I don't know how charismatic Mohammed was, or even Moshe, his speech impediment aside. So I cannot compare them to Scientology. However, neither Islam nor Christianity uses the same MLM techniques or mind games that Scientology does, and I nonetheless would not rank Scientology up there with the other 2 (of the 3) major, and oldest, religions of the world. There really is no contest.

@spacebizkit1966 Yes, Scientology exists in Germany. This thread devolved into a conversation about I don't even know what. But the original discussion was just that while Germany does have Scientology centers in quite a few cities, they are NOT considered a religion and they do not have non-profit status as they do in the US (one of the biggest mistakes the US ever made!). They are a taxed corporation in Germany (and seen as a cult by most).

Not sure what you mean, but Modi is not Chassidic. But they still find him funny!

Huh? I am not (and never was) a Rodney Dangerfield fan, and don't even recall what his shtick was. But I find Modi hysterical. He doesn't talk about being Jewish all the time--he roasts Orthodox Judaism and Orthodox Jews a the time. And he does it in a funny, non offensive way. If you don't understand Orthodox Jewish culture, it is hard to understand his humor. But for his niche audience, he is hysterical!

@gabbar51ngh Christianity yes, I agree with your logic. If you mean that someone took a major religion of the era and interpreted their own way, then spread their message...(this time it just happened to REALLY catch on--likely due to a charismatic leader with a message that promised to ease people's pains and sorrows and ultimately lead an easier life on earth. And an even better one thereafter.). However Islam and Judaism (the "difficult" religion people were being steered away from at the time) are both a very different situation. They were both too old and too established, even back then, to be considered a cult by definition.

@professorrosenstock5026 Chasid--a Hasidic Jewish person. Chassidim--Hassidic Jewish people (the plural of Chassid).

@dawnmackeller4472 Is this true? If so it is fascinating! Do you have any documentation that you can find? Leah Rimini would likely be interested in it. Too few people knew LRH was a sci-fi writer paid a penny a word from as far back as 1938. I wish Leah Rimini would use the attention she has commanded from her show to expose all the tidbits of history that led up to Dianetics and then Scientology. It would shed a lot of light on the topic!

@Србомбоница86 Islam is YOUNGER than Christianity?? Sorry, I don't like to call people names, so understand I am referring to your statement, but that is the DUMBEST thing I have heard in a LONG time! And that includes all the Coyote comments after the last debate! Maybe there was a typo? If you do think that is true, I suggest you look it up before you do anything else (like, ever)!

@hisredrighthand5212 I think we have strayed from the origins of this chain. Perhaps you should go back to the beginning and see what the discussion was that originally started the conversation before you get insulted by any of the comments. I don't think anyone's intention was to insult you, or Christianity for that matter. The discussion was about Scientology and then specifically, scientology in Germany. Ich kann dass auch alles gerne auf Deutsch erklären, wenn Du möchtest.

@123Koizora123 Yes! 100%. And Germany was smart not to give them non-profit status or view them as a religion, since they are not. And they should be taxed! We were dumb in the US. Die ist bestimmt eine Sekte!
