It definitely is a thing here in the US. Once you have to toilet train a boy (with the help of school or daycare who works on reinforcing habits with you), then you will notice that there are "polite rules" that everyone should learn and follow. One just doesn't really think about it until they have to think about it!

@Krylon103112 Not exactly sure what you are saying, however at all of the various schools, daycares and kindergartens my 4 kids went to, they all taught the kids how to use the bathroom the same way. Which starts by raising your hand and asking to use the restroom, to washing your hands properly at the end. It is part of the curriculum (which is why you cannot enter 1st grade unless you are already toilet trained)!

@Krylon103112 If you are truly married, then I would definitely suggest keeping her. You will be hard pressed to find another woman who is willing to live with your archaic opinion and values. Und dass stimmt auch in Deutschland. Wahrscheinlich mehr so. Aber wie gesagt, wenn Du sagst dass Deine Frau kein Problem damit hast, dann sollst Du wohl mit Ihr bleiben!

Random differences--do one on table manners! I worked very hard to teach my kids proper table manners. Then when we went to Europe, I had to adjust their habits to those when one is on the Continent.
