@Canuckmom128 I don't know if you grew up FFB, or were a BT, and then fell off the derech, or have absolutely no idea what I am asking you. However what you are stating is extremely rare in the Orthodox Jewish community. In which there are HUGE differences depending on the community. This is a documentary about dating in Israel. And as you can see, even in this poorly done documentary (the translation is also terrible) there is a system in place, and it has a good track record. The things that you are pointing out, as well as the sensationalized YT video you suggest, represent a very, very small, fringe group that most do not want to even be associated with. Also, if someone wants to marry "a boy who learns" or prefers a "learner-earner", that is their business--and not ours--to judge. Oprah actually did an interesting series on the topic of the Orthodox Jewish home that I would recommend (it's on YT). Although it represents but only one segment of the many different types of Orthodox Judaism (Chabad Lubovitch--like "the Chabadnik" the mom mentions here, as opposed to an Ultra-Orthodox boy), it is done well--Oprah style, of course. You would learn more there. If interested. And if not, please don't judge and miseducate based on a few YT videos.. The world today aside, we are certainly used to antisemitism... but comments like yours are literally the definition of spreading hate, lies and bigotry. Not to mention that some could say it is "fake news" (tho I am sure you are not using something called the Secret Lives of Chassidim as your only source of information). Unless of course, that was your point all along. Tho I can't imagine why you would be watching these shows (it is frightening actually).

One who did not grow up in the culture would, of course never be able to understand this. And moreover, this is a poorly done documentary on the topic. It does not show or explain the differences within Orthodox Judaism (which are vast)--for example the way a modern Orthodox woman would go about finding a husband is very different than an Ultra-Orthodox man. Nor would the two ever marry each other. Not to mention that this is in Israel, not New York (although in some circles there are very few differences). But if one doesn't understand, how can they judge? I am answering a year later... I wonder if you see the comments differently now?

@carikshawn6955 I am sorry for your situation, however what you are stating is extremely rare in the Orthodox Jewish community. This is a documentary about Israelis, where I know that the divorce rate went up. By 5% in 2018, but that was still only a total of around 11K couples (exact divorce statistics are online if interested). As you can see, even in this poorly done documentary (the translation is also terrible) there is a system in place. It has been used by many for 100's and 100's of years with a proven track record. Oprah actually did an interesting series on the topic that I would recommend (it's on YT). although it represents but only one segment of the many different types of Orthodox Judaism (Chabad Lubovitch--like "the Chabadnik" the mom mentions here, as opposed to an Ultra-Orthodox boy), it is done well--Oprah style, of course. You would learn more there. If interested. And if not, please don't judge. The world today aside, we are certainly used to it.... but it still is not necessary. Let alone offensive.

@TarasTarot We do not exclude anyone. We may not think everyone is marriage material, but that is something completely different. This is also a limited documentary on a limited topic, in Israel. And not the best one at that by any means.
