@josembb1902 Well, obviously, you only need one person. Tho it would be cute for a young couple. Having grown up in Manhattan, gentrified or not, you wouldn't catch me dead in Queens. But now I have to start apt shopping for 2 kids starting college back East, so I need to learn to shut my mouth and not be a snob (or I will just get stuck paying more)! Hence the cute, quiet street looked lovely, lol!

@josembb1902 it is a great apt at a great price. Yes, you are trading somewhat on location but that is a personal decision. For someone to make it about race is completely absurd. Not to mention the fact that they are completely clueless about real estate (in any city in the world). Gentrification and racist are not synonymous. It certainly hasn't been for the hundreds of years that it has been happening. But nothing else makes sense these days, so why should calling a nice apartment in Queens for a reasonable price "racist?" Ridiculous!

The term is a railroad style apt. However technically that refers to apartments on the Lower East Side of Manhattan from the turn of the (last) century. Back when Queens was a very, very far away place "in the country".

@andreamoscoso4065 There is a wonderful tenement museum on the lower East Side (Essex St. maybe, totally guessing)...if and when it is open again, definitely check it out! It will tel you the history of the tenements and railroad apts of the era (my greatgrandparents, and family owned a tenement at the turn of the century and each daughter and family, etc. had a floor. Very common. Then the apts were broken out as the family moved to the suburbs (Queens, etc) and made into sep apts. Ours was on Essex, so I may be confusing the museum with my family history, lol. Sorry!

@josembb1902 Do you mean Forest Hills? Forest Heights is not a neighborhood in Queens, unless it is some area with a new name. Yes, Forest Hills is one of the nicer neighborhoods in Queens (always has been). The school district is good and always has been, due to how well the students test and how high the scores on based on a the National Average (first it was largely Jewish, and then became mainly Asian). Do you know the nearest subway station?

@CashJordan Have you been to the tenement museum on the Lower East Side? They are Railroad apartments--museum will show and explain where the name comes from. Worth a visit!

@josembb1902 The only downside is the location (the one thing you can't change). Does it say where in Queens it is? What is the subway station? That could help (if it is somewhere convenient to the city).

@josembb1902 Also, assuming it is, or near, Forest Hills, where the area by 71st and Continental was built up already in the late 80's/early 90's, and things just branched out from there, as they do, I am sure that Jamaica has become even more popular and expensive. Especially as the elderly passed away. And the rent controlled apartments were redone and costs went up. But what became of Jamaica Estates? Since the 1950's that was the place to be. What is the story there now, do you happen to know?
