No, that is not true. While this was a very basic overview, their main theory of count the votes until you get to 270 is still how the President will be chosen. And they are Electoral College votes, not Popular Opinion votes.

@philliprogers964 It depends on the State! Some states even have fines if they break their agreement to vote along party lines. But you are incorrect, I suggest you look it up.

I have a question--Who here already knew/understood that the Electoral College is at the root of the expression "Systemic Racism?" Hit like if you already understood that the two are connected for the first time today (doesn't mean you need to be able to explain the Electoral College vs. The Popular vote!)

@sloopfan3706 No!!! You have it very backwards. I was born in NY and live in CA. I vote Red Nationally, and Blue locally. As many people in NY or LA do. But we also know that our vote for President does not really count. It is a winner take all system. A very outdated, imperfect system that needs reform, but still a system that does NOT count the Popular vote. Just Electoral College votes. That is why voter turnout is so low in many safe states.

This is a very bare bones explanation of the Electoral College. It actually only explains how the votes are counted. It did not get into the why. And yes, it is a very old, antiquated system. The Electoral College is at the root of what people are talking about when they say systemic racism. But sadly, I am getting the feeling that most of the people who have been throwing the term around lately don't actually know that... 🤔
