  1. Dr. Peterson, thank you for inviting Dr.McGilchrist back. It was such a great discussion & brilliant book he wrote! I understand external processes as the effects and manifestations of internal ones. "Radical simplification" in today's culture wars using simplifying algorithms. The basis of what is right or wrong comes from ideological identifications with ideological dogmas not from moral law also encoded in the Bible and the tradition, teachings. It is rightly called algorithmic, procedural, constrained, under control, left hemispheric, collapsing the complex into crude, over simplifying and blind to what else can be true. It is not wise. Our culture permeates with left hemispheric thinking and ideas. It simlifies and trivialises practically everythig. It perpetuates the Dunning - Kruger effect. The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which people wrongly overestimate their knowledge or ability in a specific area. This tends to occur because a lack of self-awareness prevents them from accurately assessing their own skills. In the effects of trauma, a person disengages from reality as it is by turning to cognitive mechanisms that further distort what there is. A collection of distorted mechanisms builds distorted ideas, which form an illusion of reality - an ideology. This process happens again and again in human history. We are on the way to develop another one on a grand scale. I'd say the left hemispheric functions take part in it to curb the uncounscious the right hemisphere is more in touch with. It is a process of compressing reality into an illusion everyone should believe in for survival reasons. And act it out. To me, it seems in some part acting out traumas or brain malfunctions, where there is a lack of proper integration of its different functions on societal level. Partly due to a sudden rapture in trust and a safe relationship in trauma, one starts to believe that one can't believe his embodied experience because it is untrustworthy and dangerous. What it can cause is resorting to an illusion of the reality built by the defence mechanisms, which is internally safer and gets projected outward. World starts to operate in projection out of survival. There is a rupture in the process of integration of embodied experience and partly alienation from it. It brings alienation from reality as it is also from "the uncounscious, "the realm of God, and embodied experience and deep emotions. It is like being out of touch with processing of a process of reality, aggreviting alienation from oneself, God, others, reality as an effect. It is like being stuck in a frozen picture of reality in ever changing flow and evolving process of life. The culture that is built from the frozen frame acts as an epigenetic mechanism shaping phenotypic expressions passed on to the next generation - transmission of trauma. BRILLIANT podcast! Thank you!

  3. Thanks for your stance. I fully agree with your points. I'm from Poland. We helped a lot of Ukrainian refugees. They are all well integrated in our country & many returned home. There is approx.1,5 million of Ukrainian refugees in Poland at the moment. We have to bear a huge inflation as a consequence of being very involved, bordering country. We don't want Russian imperialistic appetites to expand and, as a consequence, to annexe more and more countries. It is a real threat to this region. We will help fighting Ukrainians as much as we can. They are paying an enormous price for their and not only their freedom. Dr. Peterson, l admire your work. I am a psychologist, psychotherapist myself. I identify with most of the things you speak about, but with all due respect, l doubt that you have thoroughly understood the specifics of our region. You have never lived here through these turbulent times & don't understand our peoples' sufferings and fears. It is too easy to preach from the comfort of your wealthy and safe home. Please educate yourself more.

  8. One of the examples of tragic events during Communism in Poland. Today, while passing by the msin train station in Gdansk, I saw plaques commemorating the events before Christmas 1970. The communist militia shot at protesting workers from the Pomeranian region who took to the streets and went on strike against a very large price increases, frozen wages& unbearable cost of living. The economy was already in a bad condition in Poland at that time & they fought for their and their families diginty. Dozens of people were shot, the number of victims was underestimated, and funerals took place at night without the participation of the victims' relatives. People associated with the strikes were persecuted for years. Tragic event was wiped out of the history as if has never happened. In the 1980s, the Solidarity revolution began, and mass strikes of workers and students began, despite repressions. These people are heroes. They deserve the honor of memory of their heroism. Countless examples like that on how Communism backfired and much more atrocities. There is so much heroism in Poland ❤.

  10. Profound lecture. I am immensely grateful for it. I work as a psychologist and psychotherapist. It is a great work. Jordan is right about the importance of being aimed at. We know as therapists that there are unconscious aims like aim to resolve a trauma and being aimed at resolving it by playing it out. That's why it is important to make unconscious conscious as much as we possibly can. May God bless you, Jordan and your family.

One of the most important philosophical questions about the existence of free will. As humans, meaning creatures with limits and unsaciated, transcendend needs, we have been entrusted with free will. This means great freedom to decide as if we were fully aware & conscious of everything, the complete knowledge to make correct decisions, based on total truth. Total truth is only known by God. Such a freedom & privilege. What a gift for us to get oriented in reality. Worthy of God's children. The problem is we have & always will have limited knowledge. We have to unite our free will with God's will through unity in Love. Breaking of this union is very unbeneficial to us. I see it through my life & practice with so many people (patients) to be a profound truth. I'm a psychologist and psychotherapist. Catholic.

  24. I don't think there is an emergence of the idea. There is a reality of its being.

To me, it looks like overly simplistic mathematical models built on crude theories - the theory of evolution is - about highly complex systems & processes leading to absurd self- refuting findings & walking in a fog. For example, the complexity of perception, information processing, and modelling of the reality in humans can not be described by crude models related to simple organisms. In my view, the complexity of "a receiver & a processor of signals" from the outside world is necessary to correctly approximate the complexity of the outside world for survival & adaptation to it. Thus, the higher complexity of a brain (mind), the better approximation of the reality we perceive & model its representations. What we can not perceive is described by mathematical equations, which are confirmed by experiments & data that rander them valid. & further on applicable in technological applications. But not only. There are higher goals than merely survival of genes & adaptation. It is evident in humans. Why do we perceive & process art? Why do we sacrifice life for non related others? It shows to me that the evolution theory & mathematical models build on it, if applied to complex systems, lead to absurd theories like Hoffman's Methaphisical Conscious Realism Thesis & and results Maybe these presuppositions & calculations work for simple organisms only. It entails a great degree of reductionism. Reductionism is over simplifying something highly complex & it is not true. I'm a psychologist myself, with strong interests in physics.

Aristotele versus Plato views in ontology, utopia of pure intellect (we can include transhumanism, scientism & mechanistic worldview in it) versus experiencing, as he calls it, "betweeness"/Gestalt, Logos versus Mythos, what can psychopathology of schizophrenia teach us, what are the consequences of poor processing of emotions ( including defence mechanisms and autism), the uncounscious, consciousness, what is truth, left versus right hemisphere functioning & response to the perceived and processed reality are, amongst other relevant topics, brilliantly described in the newest book by Dr.Iain McGilchrist " The matter with things". I know this book is gigantic but it is worth reading & worth the time spend on it! I think that it might be a great addition to an interesting discussion on this podcast. It is a truly BRILLIANT, comprehensive book. I am finishing the first volume. I'd like to recommend it to everyone who is interested in a complex take on different scientific issues, also relevant to what has been said on this podcast. " There is a clear connexion between the will to power of the left hemisphere of a brain, and a tendency to try to make reality conform to our theory; wisdom lies in conforming one's theory as far as possible to experience". We traded off richness of life & depth of wisdom for a precision of a pure intellect operating on representations of the reality by means of mechanistic operations on fragmented, limited data and narrow definitions. So sad, we call it truth. In psychopathology to conform reality to our mental illusions - the defence mechanisms.

  42. If you repress and disown your "totalitarian impulses," you project them onto others and see them as radically different than you. Moreover, these aggressive impulses will rule you over in quite a paranoid way. These women are, of course, non aggressive. They are "caring", moraly superior, and virtue signalling.
