  2. I agree with your wise sentiment. Impact you make on people & them on you is more important than hurt of loss. In my experience, l had to learn to "say goodbye" to many people through my work & some people in life. Loss is intertwined with love. Although it is hard to part with people, to let them walk their path, it is one of the most valuable and necessary lessons we learn. How to let go of people. How to let go of certain ideas we no longer hold on to. It is fascinating in life how we are shaped by what's difficult, learning to "shed off" what isn't necessary. I think that only love remains, despite suffering of loss.

  6. I think what he meant was that we can train in controlling our thoughts in a sense that we can notice them, reason logically, discuss them, follow them, or not. As opposed to emotions. We can not control emotions. They arise automatically. It doesn't mean we should react to every strong emotion. Self-regulation of emotions is the ability we have to learn from our childhood.

  8. Very interesting ideas.l will think them through. Thank you both. There is another interesting description of stages of human psycho-social development by psychoanalyst E.Erickson. Intelectual development is only one aspect of human growth. Emotional, spiritual developments are equally necessary & complementary. I don't believe in stagnation or that getting stuck at one stage is ok. There is a "force within us" that propels us to grow. I saw it in many people. No matter what stage they were at. I don't think that rational always equals wise.l see that rational is being idolised and created syncretism of different relativistic truths that are similar to myths because some of them are greatly speculative. I observe that we always belong to certain ideology (as sets of ideas), no matter how independent of a group thinking we want to see ourselves. It is a truth we subscribe ourselves to. I like the idea of new, complementary paradigms in neuroscience, which are scientifically proven & encompass some "unexplained" experiences. I see them in people & don't disregard them. I don't regard them as clinically psychotic because people retain their self-criticism. I think it might be a state of encompassing greater scope of mind - rightly said. So there isn't full determinism in biological world. It's not like in machine computing or laws of physics. Somebody is conveying a wisdom and common sense . Refreshing. Fascinating conversation 👍.

  12. We have to discover the meaning of life on the philosophical level. Materialism isn't the correct philosophical statement. We only perceive the reality as material. It is not material in its essence. Thus, we can not interpret it in materialist terms. Quantum Mechanics shows us limits to our perception and understanding. The material world operates in a different way to this we learn being conditioned as children. It is a naive, superficial view- a survival mode and conditioning. Necessity of transcending what appears to be true to the senses and rudimentary mental representations - the confines of "ego"representation. Only when we experience something do we open ourselves to it and resonate with it. It is not only an intellectual insight. Intellect might not grasp it because we are conditioned in the reality we have to survive in. Thus, we have necessary survival mechanisms by which we are "bounded to the ground." They form representation of "ego" in our minds.Difficult experiences are very important in human life because in finiteness, we open ourselves to infinity. Finite can be experienced as unbearable. There are aspects in humans that are infinite, e.g.ability to love. We discover it. We are also confronted with discovering Logos in nature. We also discover Ethos- God's law in us. We can not open up to infinite if we are not free. God frees us from the "prison of finiteness," from clinging to finiteness in various aspects. Opening us to the riches of infinity. It's as if our mind comes out of confinement, "expands." We discover our true spiritual nature and total dependence on God as transcending the finiteness of an infinite being. The unifying principle is love. In it, everything depends on each other. Without entering this level of understanding, resonating with this reality, we close ourselves in a prison of finitude, transience, cling to it as if there was nothing beyond this identity. We get stuck in suffering, survival mode, indispensable from the world of biology & psychology. Trans-humanism is not transcendence. It is dead end. Finite cannot be infinite.

  13. I don't agree. Men are very sensitive and empathetic. They just have to tap into it & learn to express it through words. I work as therapist. There is undiscovered richness in people they dare to explore in safe relationships, including psychotherapy.
