Basically, he ended up marrying a person just like his Mother. It is known that even though a parent can be very abusive, the child still loves them. I know this. So, being with a person that is the same, you stay because there is an element of that same love. It is akin to believing this is what you are worth. That it is you, deep down, your worth, your fault. Then there comes a time when you are up and realise, you did nothing wrong to warrant it at all. And enough really is enough.
