  3. Mine began when I was 15. I remember that day so clearly. I was between classes at high school. As I was walking in the hallway to my next class I suddenly began to feel like I was suffocating. Students and teachers were walking toward me and it was as if they all melted together and the walls starting moving in. My heart was racing, I broke out into a cold sweat. I thought I was losing my mind. I ran to the nurses office and by the time I got there the feeling had passed, but I was a shaking, crying mess. I don't remember much after that except she took my temperature, made me lie down because I was feeling nauseous and my Mom had to come pick me up. I wish I could say that was the last one, but that was just the beginning. Years later I found out how panic leads to more panic. I eventually had to drop out of school and it took me years to venture out into the world again. I still struggle with it from time to time, but have learned to recognize the thought patterns that can precipitate an episode and most of the time can short circuit it before it becomes full blown.
