Small businesses competently run can win on customer service. My local hardware store's owner welcomed nearby Lowes and Walmart because they draw traffic right past his location. His parking lot stays full and he doesn't bother opening on Sundays! He can afford better staffing by helpful workers which is part of his successful (since long before I first shopped there....in 1985. MANY so-called Mom and Pop stores in rural areas were/are ripoffs, often buying their small stock at retail then marking it up even more because they had/have a captive local audience. Dollar stores replaced them with lower prices and wider offerings and succeed because they're near to their customers.
2
