  1. The wisest choice I made in my life was learning to wrench. It's never too late and there is no better hobby because wrenching saves absurd amounts of money over a lifetime while greatly expanding your options far beyond vehicle repair. Wrenching cars and motorcycles made learning industrial maintenance and repair easy which made working on aircraft easy (cars are miserable compared to fixing fighters for Uncle Sugar) which made working until retirement interesting fun. Never buying a new four wheeled vehicle made paying off my modest homes and acreage easy and I do all my own work on those homes and shops except electrical inspections. SO CAN ANYONE READING THIS. (My wife was a skilled CH-3 helo crew chief.) My newest trucks are 2000 models, one Silverado built from body and frame donors where I used to work and various F150s (at this point self and bros GIVE each other extra trucks) all bought used and cheap. (I prefer broken vehicles because I know why they were sold and many owners just want them gone.) If you're new to wrenching start with something popular with a large user base and aftermarket support. Have faith and patience with yourself. Ordinary people built your vehicles after all.
