  1. Why would anyone who isn't rich want a new car until every other debt they have is paid off (especially mortgage) and their retirement savings are already maxed out? I could buy new for cash because I'm far too smart to buy new at all. That's how I retired debt-free at 47 (without consulting any financial advisor including all the Youtube scamming vermin). Of course since only a few people are capable of wise choices (because they consider "learned helplessness" acceptable) there will always be used cars for me, and they'll be affordable since I did what most kids were once expected to do and learnt to work on what I own (which more than pays for some very nice tools over time including my welding shop, sand blaster and industrial air compressors. If you don't want to be ripped off, choose to be competent. (Women can too, my wife was a skilled USAF helicopter mech and my mom worked on the PBY Catalina manufacturing line during WWII.) Choose competence. All it takes is determination.

  3. I'm not screwed. My money is not squandered on new vehicles. I buy used so I get a known machine without all the markup, taxes etc then keep them for decades. The auto industry doesn't want my money or that of the other people who reject high prices.
