I was alive when the USSRs tankie fan club were certain of Soviet victory. I was stationed in West Germany when the Warsaw Pact was expected to crash through the Fulda Gap. CIA incompetence gave the US disaster after disaster and missed key events like the Iranian Revolution. I am not impressed with them any more than US military senior leadership who gave us decades of deception re: GWOT (for which no one was punished).
