  1. Not a good idea if that accident involves an external fire. Adding complexity like that tells me you aren't a mechanic and therefore while well-meaning haven't a clue about unintended consequences. EVERY choice that adds technical complexity adds more points of failure and increases cost, maintenance cost, and crash repair cost. A simple manual door latch works amazingly well.
