I would not encourage any female to enlist though I met my wife in the Air Force. I wisely heeded the Marine and Army vets I grew up around by going USAF and saw nothing in my long career to make me question that choice. If you're female your physical disadvantages ensure permanent vulnerability. You are not physically strong enough to defend yourself no matter how fit you are and to assume command has your back is proven to be wishful thinking. Admitting females was required because the public demand it. That does not make enlisting an intelligent decision even if a few do well. It works for some but if you have the qualifications to do well you can do better somewhere else. The armed forces REQUIRE warm bodies to fill personnel slots and that means lowering enlistment standards to meet quota. Unwritten standards run any human organization and scraping the gutter has consequences. It svcks for the good troops who have to deal with the dirtbags because standards must adapt to use the "slowest common denominator". That's why so many good troops don't re-up.
