  2. If Afghans wanted the Kabul government no withdrawal would have stopped them. The Taliban NEVER gave up despite B-52 strikes. They won the Afghan popular mandate, end of story. Their opponents were free to fight as hard (they did not come close), organize an effective rural government along traditional lines (they hid in the cities and stole foreign aid), lead by example (at which they failed utterly) and do everything the Taliban not only did but fought hard to do to win. The Taliban earned their victory and there was never a chance for a Quisling government installed by foreigners to win against a region (A-stan is not a nation in the Western sense) whose cultural identity rests on repeated successful rejection of foreign attempts to impose conventional nation-state structures! The humanitarian impact of withdrawal is minor, the Talibs proved not to be Khmer Rouge, and Westerners should remember the bloodthirsty lot we backed like Dostum before casting stones. The Taliban fought a classic Maoist civil war and won.

  3. That poor lab worker should have left long ago for a professional department in a good town instead of a city which was never a good place to live by national standards. It is irresponsible to raise a child in such a low education area even if you don't care about yourself. Louisiana is 48th in education and when things have always been that bad they will not improve in one lifetime. That's not an insult but observation. A profoundly rustic society cannot choose to become different. That requires newcomers of superior culture and values but who in their right mind with a choice would live in NOLA? Police only "control" what the public permit them to control. They are not an occupation force and as we see in many countries even armed occupiers cannot maintain order against sufficient public will. Criminals are OF the public. Those who want a better life must leave. Life is not a Hollywood movie and good can not always triumph no matter how much we pretend otherwise. The only way to truly lower urban crime rates is gentrification but there is no reason for anyone with money to live in a dangerous area whose economy was never and will never be a compelling draw. I left the NY metro area long ago when it was dangerous (well over one thousand murders a year) and been safe and happy ever since. Remaining accomplishes nothing. Gentrification fixed NYC as nothing else ever could. Flight is right if you care about yourself and your loved ones, particularly in an area INEVITABLY destined to be repeatedly devastated by nature. Knowing the battles you cannot win is basic military strategy and should be a life strategy. Dying bravely is still dying. The US has millions of refugees who escaped toxic countries so if they can do that why remain in a doomed city whose best years were still bad by national standards? All the pride in the world won't fix it (see what the Bible says about pride).

  4. How do mortgages in the UK work? I would NEVER accept an adjustable rate mortage which gutted millions of Americans in the last recession. How does a fixed rate contract "end"? BTW this video comments section is packed with stealth "financial advisor" bot posts so please report them. They begin with what seems an innocent post then the payload names a fictitious adviser for which the scam victim then searches for on the broader web.
