  1. Those posts can easily be replaced by a steel beam spanning the full width and supported by a steel post on each end which while permanent can easily be made adjustable. Steel should get much more love in residential construction and especially repairs. Used steel is quite reasonable in large sized (I use it often expanding my workshop) and UNlike wood steel structures can easily be made both load bearing and adjusable to counter future movement.
