Let this old Boomer remind all concerned that the OBJECTIVE OF WORKING IS...RETIREMENT! You are not your job (though i greatly enjoyed most of mine). They pay you to work because most work is not what you would be doing for fun. Work is a cost center for all concerned, not just employers. Too many people lack the imagination to live without a job to structure their lives. I do not have that problem. I'm highly skilled and enjoy using those skills for myself in my happy retirement. I methodically planned my life to have a short career (USAF) then retire fully and debt-free. Why should I be counted as UNemployed as if I were deprived of something? Men not working isn't freaking "everyone" out, but screeching about it gets views. The fewer men working by choice creates upward compensation pressure on employers. Work is not altruism. America is a business, not a country. Pay what the market will bear, or not.

@RobertMorgan To enjoy MY life. Remember roughly a third of life is in old age so if you fail to stack a solid retirement package with AMPLE extra money that leaves you vulnerable. Why do I have to give what I worked for to anyone? I earned it, not anyone else. Good for you if you define yourself by your kids, but how dare you imply that's the only ethical way to live?
