Learn to wrench. Anyone can and it's easier today thanks to videos. Wrenching your own rides saves vastly more than it costs though every mechanic breaks stuff learning (ask any professional tech, no one is perfect). I always bought beaters and still do though I don't need to. All my bros including one cripple on SSI only have plenty of rides because we fix whatever we own and can thus buy damaged vehicles dirt cheap. It's easier to learn how to work on cars than it ever was thanks to Youtube.

Trucks certainly do and my newest are 2000 models. My oldest is a '76. New vehicles are so expensive I would never buy one though now (because I never bought one) I could do it with cash and I am very far from rich. Trucks are well supported by the aftermarket for parts and old ones are well established. Unless I lived in the Rust Belt or by the ocean I could get decades out of any decent truck and expect my current fleet to last the rest of my life. This was deliberate on my part because I put financial security before everything else, but wrenching is so rewarding I do it for fun. Anyone can learn and today they have videos of nearly everything.
