Avoid the marriage trap.

Do you prevent them from eating songbirds (cats are invasive species) and have them spayed/neutered so they do not continue damaging the environment by making more excess predators? Good stewardship respects all animals.

One piece of Silent Generation advice most boomers (the ones who cannot afford to retire) ignored is understanding government jobs are the most generally accessible route to vesting a pension you will actually collect (ignore memes and clickbait). The Silent Generation (they don't call themselves the "Greatest" because they know better than the hype of fools) sought reliable income above all so they often became cops (choose a good location), firefighters, Postal workers (not contractor delivery expendables), Merchant Mariners, government administrators local, state and Federal, and of course joined the armed forces for the career (which is completely different from choosing combat arms then getting expended in constabulary mistakes by senior leadership). Once you vest that income you then have choice of affordable locations to retire so I did...at 47 and debt-free. I'm far from rich but half my income is discretionary because I also chose to be highly self-sufficient. This isn't "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps", far from it. Coldly and pragmatically planning your life doesn't cost a dime. Most people won't buy only you are your problem so choose to handle your business. If that means moving, move. If that means disruptive change, disrupt. Life is war.

It is better to learn and do than watch nonsense and dream.

(More) jobs used to be amazingly terrible by modern standards. That's what drove collective bargaining in the first place. I was alive then. What observably changed is the collapse of the US primary education system. Ignorant workers are easy to manipulate. That's a key reason employers locate in states which don't protect them. I live not far from the famous Enersys plant which was shut down to stop organized labor's spread. The wise move is choosing a career not dependent on collective bargaining unless you're IBEW, Local 798 etc with a strong union. The reason to avoid careers dependant on collective bargaining is your fellow citizens are not reliable stewards of your fate.

Influencers don't influence me. The sooner we learn to hold popular culture in contempt then ignore it (except where not ignoring it turns a profit!) the better. Too many people live in "learned helplessness" in an era when we have the libaries of history at out fingertips.0

I learned to reject what most people do and think because following the herd leads to walking off a cliff. Early poverty has profound effects on people, some good, but others drive counterproductive choices. I always took interest in living and spending effectively and that means MEASURABLE, TESTABLE effects.

Affordable durable workout clothing is a solved problem. Military issue workout clothing is comfy and lasts many years. Many remarkably useful things can be had brand new at low prices thanks to economies of scale.

Never marry a weak person or you will have to think for two people.

DISCIPLINED generosity has been immensely useful to me and builds human support networks. I have many useful skills at which I'm respected so I can do things I greatly enjoy at no cost to me but of immense help to my friends who also have those skills and help me. We go so far as to give each other pickup trucks, tools and equipment. We build each others shops and much more so everyone saves absurd amounts of money while having great fun at what we enjoy.

Hardcore DIYer here. Hoarding disables workshops which is why industry tends to work clean. Storage space is precious so I frequently purge leftover parts. Leftover minor parts tend to have no/few other likely uses so I toss them if my bros don't have use for them. If you cannot find a part or tool that has the the same effect as not owning it. Most DIYers make the mistake of not DIYing efficient storage but it pays off immediately then for life. Jewelry is a ritual wealth demonstration and a grotesque ripoff. Working in an antique and coin store forever curing me of seeing jewelry as more than metal and shiny rocks. De Beers marketroids reinforced utterly wasteful spending. Many gold and diamond mining operations exploit workers just like rare earth mining.
