Bringing mechanics to temporary duty (which means putting them up in hotels then paying per diem etc0 would be even more expensive than trailering the fire trucks to contracted truck repair/upgrade shops (which is the usual way they get repaired in most states.) California has some interesting priorities (like failure to require, not suggest, that new buildings be fully fireproof in every area at risk of wildfire) including under-funding fire prevention despite it being a bargain compared with death and destruction by wildfire.

  5.  @JimFarmer-l3n  It's rural America and that goes with the territory. Many are old and in cognitive decline which doesn't help.
