  1. The US has billions to buy offshore junk. It can certainly afford better wages for the American workers handling those products. As for "productivity", there is no avoiding those ports so what makes "productivity" relevant for either side when management and labor are under zero competitive threat? Access to the US is most of our trade and higher wages are much better than tariffs because they are not perceived the way tariffs are.
