I haven't felt a recession since 1981 despite not being rich. I laughed at the dirtbag who offered me an ARM in 2007. BTW there are affordable homes and land but people insist on living in expensive coastal cities (like the one I wisely escaped) or other expensive areas. What I find hilarious is my poorest friends own their homes free and clear because they bough cheap rural lots, then bought cheap used singlewide mobile homes and built onto those DIY. All a house need do is provide safe comfortable shelter and be reasonable enough to pay off. Aim lower and win. If Americans followed examples from the Great Depression they'd learn useful things. The economy is never going to be safe so use the few good times to prepare for the normal bad times.

And nothing of value is lost. Their so-called food is nasty and I've avoided it for many years. Eating fast food is a CONVENIENCE choice, you're not supposed to live on junk. That wasn't a problem until junk got expensive. The prototypical cheap fast food success was really White Castle which was always unabashedly CHEAP. I can afford to eat out but don't do it often on principle, but when I do eat out it's not at Mickey D's. Even Taco Hell improved their quality which used to have quite a laxative effect.

Sweet! I've been ready for decades. Not rich, just wisely prepared (keep it small and own it all). If that happens I'll further outfit my workshop for even less money.

They are smart enough to leave but not as smart as people who never move to FL in the first place. Following the herd doesn't end well. Have you ever seen an intelligent herd?

The personal solution to overdeveloped areas permanently subject to disastrous storms is not to live there. Even if you build a proper reinforced concrete home atop an elevated "turtle back" fill mound of railroad rock (great stuff that drains beautifully and doesn't crush, my workshops sit atop railroad rock and have welded very heavy duty I-beam foundations) to prevent flooding your insurance will rise due to other people's mistakes. The USA is enormous so no one "needs" to live in any particular location, let alone permanently irreversibly vulnerable locations certain to be hit again, and again, and again. High rent payments can buy a modest (McMansions are wants not needs) older ranch home far inland. Clinging to the familiar is often a financial mistake but your only problem is you and yours so make an informed adult choice and lead a planned, affordable life. Slower zebra become lion spoor so don't be one.

When people dump something there is usually a very good reason. Price "cuts" just mean shaving the markup.
