Business owners in CA should learn there is money to be made on the east coast especially in the affordable southeast where many new Mexican, Indian and Asian restaurants and other businesses revitalize dying old mill towns and everyone wins. Staying in high cost CA is leaving money on the table.

US driving skills are frequently bad, but if we live long enough we ALL are doomed to cognitive decline. The FAA doesn't let airline pilots fly forever because they are realists. Of course loss of license is frightening but US driving tests are already so pathetic there is zero excuse for not passing. I'm old too but I don't pretend experience reverses cognitive decline and when I can no longer safely operate motor vehicles it will be time as we all eventually do to check out. Testing should not worry anyone who can still see and react.

Many moderns fail to understand (because no one had the decency to TEACH them) nature is not a Disney movie. Life devours life in a constant churn of perpetual violence. Moderns forget what indigenous peoples always new so now and then some get munched. A mountain lion lives to kill mammals and eat flesh. If you visit its home bring alert dogs and a capable firearm you have trained and can reliably hit with. Shed antlers aren't worth dying for. (Go during hunting season and get some delicious venison to go with the antlers and a hide to tan. Indigenous peoples understood the woods is a toothy butcher shop.)

IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING EMIGRATING TO THE US TO MAKE YOUR FORTUNE, READ THIS FIRST. It may save your life. Many immigrant business owners make the naive mistake of buying into lower class US hoods. They're perhaps used to countries where most poors aren't trash, but there is no excuse for being a healthy, employable adult poor in the US unless you are personally defective. The poor locals will rob and murder each other for fun. Do you REALLY want to do business with your racist enemies? You aren't them and they do not want you. That's why at first opportunity they steal you blind then burn the wreckage if feeling extra frisky. I welcome ambitious new arrivals but DO NOT locate in poor US high crime areas. I don't care about the tempting low cost. It's low because sane Americans don't want to get murdered, robbed and raped. They don't want to live there because it's not possible to improve poor hoods without demolishing them completely then gentrifying them by dispersing the inhabitants. There are many wise reasons smart Americans who escape poverty scrape off their old hoods like shit from a shoe. I don't pretend to respect bottom feeders who don't respect themselves. Good people should locate with other good people to mutual benefit. If you would not happily raise your children to adulthood in a given neighborhood do not do business there. Ask the innocent Korean shopowners burned out in the LA riots, then choose a state where you have the right to self defense and to stand your ground. There are many inexpensive semi-rural and suburban areas you can locate your business and many are near the east coast in steadily growing but affordable areas where your property purchase will appreciate so you can sell out when you retire. Many Asian and Mexican restaurants do well there and are quite popular with the locals. Just do your homework and don't forget to discreetly ask police where a safe place to locate would be. Do this one on one on the street since they are more likely to tell you the truth. Look for growing stable areas close to transportation arteries and with a diverse business base. The vast majority of Americans are hardworking decent people. We hate those who defile our nation and do the best we can to keep them out of our neighborhoods. Gated communities for example can be great places to serve from just outside with food deliveries and service businesses. Choose law abiding customers and you'll make more money sooner. Then you can join them!

Poor adults in the US who are physically healthy and employable are (mostly) poor because they're trash. Economic separation is vital to escape them which is why humans who overcome poor background GTFO and don't learn back. I scraped my home town off like shit from my shoes then prospered thereby.

@brownpapi2634 There are plenty of poor hoods which need businesses and whose locals refuse to work together to build them. Many immigrant business startup owners come from REALLY poor countries where you starve if you've no work. American poors get fat, do drugs and prey on each other. If one gets ahead the rest rob them in a heartbeat then torch the store which we see time after time. Many immigrants do what American poor do not, pool their investments among trusted kinfolk permitting a poor group to have concentrated effect. They locate where no one who knew better would. Large chains avoid bad areas because they'll get robbed blind making it bad business. I do agree with discouraging outside investment though because it just creates more division. Foreign business owners come from cultures like Korea (I was stationed at Kunsan) where densely packed small businesses are everywhere so they don't understand US realities. The US media neglect their duty to warn emigrants to avoid poor US hoods or don't even emigrate because if you don't look like the locals you are the enemy. Other Americans avoid bottom feeders because they know better. When my ancestors escaped their poor rural and urban roots they didn't wallow in that shit, they educated and improved themselves without looking back for which I'm deeply grateful. Warning foreigners where they don't belong is a service to everyone.

@laurijoemerick9188 The failure of businesses to correctly anticipate real demand is on them. Conferences are not new. Neither are mistakes. Next time the conference should be somewhere else, preferably overseas so some other city loses the profit. The city and the businesses concerned had agency and choices. Failure to organize the events so they could be monetized was a mistake that could have been avoided by mutual planning.
