  1. US driving skills are frequently bad, but if we live long enough we ALL are doomed to cognitive decline. The FAA doesn't let airline pilots fly forever because they are realists. Of course loss of license is frightening but US driving tests are already so pathetic there is zero excuse for not passing. I'm old too but I don't pretend experience reverses cognitive decline and when I can no longer safely operate motor vehicles it will be time as we all eventually do to check out. Testing should not worry anyone who can still see and react.
