  2. Bring back the old asylum system where the mentally ill can be protected from their own unwise choices. It was shut down for economic reasons because unlike prison asylums were not Federally funded. That led to people needing mental health care being abandoned to the street or, if they got busted, tossed into the jail or prison system with even worse "care". The choice to scrap asylums was a false economy and millions of affected Americans suffer from it.
