The majority of humans were NEVER good with technology. There are many reasons not everyone was a blackmith, potter or carpenter and that "service stations" existed when autos were very simple machines. The era you and I (I'm likely twice your age) remember had more capable people because the BARRIER TO ENTRY filtered non-enthusiasts. Tech proficiency requires native aptitude plus enthusiasm. Most people are not wired to understand tech only use it.

Most of the public SAY they want /thing but if the slightest effort or performance hit is involved

One key problem is German engineering culture changed for the worse but in typical German fashion no one sees a problem. German cars and motorbikes (like the classic air-cooled flat twin BMWs) used to be elegantly simple. Today they embrace complexity for its own sake but that complexity isn't cheap to manufacture and is miserable to work on. Customers of course don't work on their own vehicles in any important numbers, but owners DO pay expensive repair bills for work done by dealers or private parties. Nothing will change but it's hilarious to watch such leadership arrogance get its just deserts.

End laws which make vehicles complex. The public didn't ask for that, unelected agencies chose to rule by fiat.

Monetizing those too lazy to become even slightly tech-literate is fine by me. Interaction with the entertainment system is voluntary after all. Adblocking, piracy etc is the consumer adjusting their experience to suit them. Wise businesses will not press too hard...

Mozilla have buckets of money yet fail to prioritize THE BROWSER and nothing else except Thunderbird. There is no excuse for spending anything on anything else not required for the Foundation's survival.

WANT to pay? Non-technical humans just go with the proffered default and non-techies don't know how to pirate. (Neither do some techies, but they're odd creatures I've not figured out.)

Tech companies refuse to make genuinely rugged notebooks at volumes giving economies of scale. Note that ruggedizing notebooks is CHEAP but makers choose to grotesquely overprice them for their captive audience.

In what alternate universe has Youtube broken ad blocking? Not on my machine. Tech-illiteracy is a CHOICE. I get no adverts and that arrangement where the mass of chumps are monetized while those making minimal effort are unaffected works fine. Hint: Use multiple browsers configured appropriately and you can have any desired level of control.

Google search is almost worthless. I predict that will not be fixed.
