  1. The majority of humans were NEVER good with technology. There are many reasons not everyone was a blackmith, potter or carpenter and that "service stations" existed when autos were very simple machines. The era you and I (I'm likely twice your age) remember had more capable people because the BARRIER TO ENTRY filtered non-enthusiasts. Tech proficiency requires native aptitude plus enthusiasm. Most people are not wired to understand tech only use it.

  3. Tech companies refuse to make genuinely rugged notebooks at volumes giving economies of scale. Note that ruggedizing notebooks is CHEAP but makers choose to grotesquely overprice them for their captive audience.
