  1. One key problem is German engineering culture changed for the worse but in typical German fashion no one sees a problem. German cars and motorbikes (like the classic air-cooled flat twin BMWs) used to be elegantly simple. Today they embrace complexity for its own sake but that complexity isn't cheap to manufacture and is miserable to work on. Customers of course don't work on their own vehicles in any important numbers, but owners DO pay expensive repair bills for work done by dealers or private parties. Nothing will change but it's hilarious to watch such leadership arrogance get its just deserts.
