  2. Gamblers get too much respect. Gambling is a tax on fools so better the state get and recycle some of the money than it all go untaxed to organized crime. Back when it was socially acceptable to call gambling "degenerate" more accurate discourse was enabled. I was alive long before sports betting was legal yet it was at least equally ubiquitous, but also discreet of necessity. War on gambling is like the war on (some) drugs in that it does not work because it goes against human nature. Gamblers choose their fate therefore deserve it. Weakness is to be scorned and purged from oneself, not indulged.
