I use USB to SATA adapters with 3D printed drive/adapter cases to use superseded SATA drives as fast externals I load with Ventoy to live boot multiple images, with Windows To Go externally bootable full OS installs, for externally bootable Linux installs and of course for storage but I make most of my external storage bootable because that costs nothing.
