  1. Planned failure and absurd cost-cutting are the reasons for timing and oil pump drive belts. I miss the days when German engineering was elegantly simple (like the Airhead BMW flat twin motorbike engines or the single cam VW fours which used the same block for carbed, Bosch mechanical and diesel top ends).
