  1. Got a source for that? Most German (and Japanese) industry was destroyed by 1945. One difference is Germans and Japanese are famous for caring about quality and efficiency. Marshall Plan aid won those conquests to Western-style economics but it was THEIR workers who did the actual rebuilding of their countries. Easy to see why since German and Japanese factories in the US are also highly productive using American workers. The US had plenty of money but ignored modern concepts of quality (W. Edwards Deming is a hero in Japan but was ignored in the US for much longer). American businesses exist only to enrich stockholders, not preserve anything long term.
