  1. Russia is ontologically toxic hence genuinely immune to Western democratization. That's why the "real" Russians dispose of dissidents one way or another. Putin's strategy of controlled opposition ensures even greater effectiveness. Wise Russians leave and don't look back, hence many expat communities elsewhere. Good luck to the dissidents but they would be wise to plan more than one route of escape. Putinists are free at any time to fully revert to the ways of their Stalinist heroes.
