@neila7169 He knew he could defect and request protective measures from any important Western government, the UK or US being obvious examples. It's easy to disappear someone who cooperates. He wasonly easy to find because he made himself easy to find.

@chenyeanmingtakumi9033 No sane NK leadership would alienate China on which NK depends for survival. NK foreign policy gestures are merely that. NK is in no strategic position to annoy Beijing and a useful buffer state. Why do people buy the narrative that NK would be so foolish? The current arrangement suits all the players. SK would be severely damaged trying to socially integrate with the North and be drained economically. NK could never militarily challenge Beijing and win, and China is not strategically constrained by weak Western ideology.
